WHY is hexadecimal

-Used to simplify binary codes for humans -Computers use binary which can be easily represented in hex -1 byte is 8 bits -1 byte represented as 00 - FF 0000 0000 - 1111 1111 000 - 255

One byte in different bases:

Base-2 (Binary):

1 1 1 1

1 1 1 1

8 4 2 1

128 64 32 16

What the computer likes

One byte in different bases:

Base 10 (decimal):

2 5 5

2 x 102 5 x 101 5 x 100

What we like

One byte in different bases:

Base 16 (Hexadecimal):

F F

15 x 16

15 x 1

Compromise!!

Other bases we won't go into but are useful to know about

(don't worry you've not failed yet)
