SIMPLE PRESENT

WHAT IS THE SIMPLE PRESENT ?

Se conoce como presente simple a un tiempo verbal del inglés. Se trata de uno de los tiempos del presente, que se emplea generalmente para las acciones cotidianas. El presente simple, por lo tanto, permite hacer referencia a rutinas o a actividades que generalmente se realizan de manera diaria. También se vincula a la permanencia en el tiempo y a afirmaciones indubitables que siempre son ciertas.

USES OF THE SIMPLE PRESENT

Para expresar hábitos y rutinas, hechos generales, acciones repetidas o situaciones, emociones y deseos permanentes: I smoke (hábito) I work in London (permanencia) London is a large city (hecho general)

Para hablar de eventos programados, presentes o futuros: Your exam starts at 09.00.

Para referirse al futuro, detrás de algunas conjunciones: after, when, before, as soon as, until: He'll give it to you when you come next Saturday.

Para dar instrucciones o indicaciones: You walk for two hundred meters, then you turn left.

SIMPLE PRESENT AND THE THIRD PERSON

REGLA 1 En las oraciones afirmativas del present simple a todos los verbos se les adiciona una -s al final. No olvides que, al encontrarse en oraciones negativas e interrogativas, la -s no debe ponerse. Cuando los verbos finalizan en -o, -sh, -ch, -ss, -x y -z debes añadirles -es al final.

EXAMPLES

Para los verbos finalizados en -y, debes reemplazar la -y por i y luego adicionar -es. To cry - He cries To spy - She spies To worry - He worries

Existe otra excepción para los verbos terminados en -y. Cuando hay una vocal antes de la -y, debes conservar esta y adicionar la -s. To pay - She pays To say - He says To lay - She lays

REGLA 2

En la tercera persona, does es el auxiliar que debes usar; sin embargo, do se usa para la primera y segunda persona del singular y plural.

To be es el verbo irregular más usado en el inglés, por lo que te recomendamos estudiar y aprender todas sus formas de conjugación:

REGLA 4

Para usar el presente simple con los modal verbs (can, must, may), debes tener en cuenta que existen dos excepciones. Nunca debes agregarles -s ni -es.

Correcto Your dog can play in this place He must be back by Tuesday She may past the IELTS test

Incorrecto Your dog cans play in this place He musts be back by Tuesday She mays past the IELTS test

NEGATIVE Your dog cannot play in this place He must not be back by Tuesday She may not pass the IELTS test

INTERROGATIVE Can your dog play in this place? Must he be back by Tuesday? May she pass the IELTS test?

TOM 'S JOB

Tom works at a bank. He is the manager. He starts work every day at 8:00 am. He finishes work every day at 6:00 pm. He lives very close to the bank. He walks to work every day. His brother and sister also work at the bank. But, they do not live close to the bank. They drive cars to work. They start work at 9:00 am. In the bank, Tom is the boss. He helps all the workers and tells them what to do. He likes his job. He is also very good at his job. Many customers like Tom, and they say hello to him when they come to the bank. Tom likes to talk to the customers and make them feel happy. Tom really likes his job.
