The birth of a legend

Gabrielle "Coco" Bonheur Chanel was a French fashion designer born on August 19, 1883 on Saumur, France, where she lived until the age of 12. When Gabrielle was 12 years old, her mother died, and because of that her and her two sisters were sent to an orphanage in Aubazine, Corrèze.

Why she became a designer?

While Coco was in the orphanage she learned how to sew and she started to do fashion designs for fun, little did she know that one day she was going to be worldwide recognized for them. She was very poor during her youth and worked as a cabaret singer. Later she met Arthur "Boy" Capel, who helped her open her first boutiques.
