The lesson plan was designed with the aim of using digital resources in the learning of the English language for a second year at secondary school. In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and emergency protocol, teachers need to flip their lessons. That is the reason to create a Genially presentation in which all the content and material are together. In this way, students have access to everything they need, and they can use the resources in the classroom but also while learning at home. We are teaching in reduced timetables, so the in-class time with the groups of students we see once every two weeks should be used for producing language more than just presenting it. So, we use the flipped classroom approach more often than we used to. And as a consequence, we provide students with resources to work in the classroom and at home, using the time together to work collaboratively and applying the language for specific communicative goals, linked to the development of digital and high order thinking skills. According to Edgard Dale (1954) audiovisual material could provide some vivid memorable experiences and extend them regardless the limitations of time, space and economic possibilities. He designed a Cone of Experience to work from the more direct experiences (learning by doing), Iconinc experiences (learning through observation) to the more abstract symbolic experiences (learning through abstraction). Edgard Dale highlighted the importance of building rich learning environments by using the potential of audiovisual materials to provide valuable input in order to promote significant learning. He highlighted the value of audiovisual resources for teaching, and argued that ‘through the skillful use of radio, audio recording, television, video recording, painting, line drawing, motion picture, photograph, model, exhibit, poster, we can bring the world to the classroom. We can make the past come alive either by reconstructing it or by using records of the past’ (Dale, 1969). Or, as is the case in this lesson plan, students have the chance to know different cities despite never having been there. The whole lesson plan is aided by online multimedia tools. Presentation, online board, interactive games, online collaborative designed surveys, interactive worksheets, quizzes and videos were selected to cater for different learning styles and also, as mentioned above, to suit the difficult educational situation in the context of a worldwide spread pandemic. On a final note, this lesson plan can easily be adapted by the teacher to work in a traditional, blended, or flipped fashion.

The teacher asks sts to watch a video about places in town. Teacher uses Jamboard to explain and solve tasks with sts. Students access different interactive and digital resources. They interact with the contents and materials. They solve tasks and work on reading, and listening skills. Sts are asked to google for a city they like. They search for the places that might be interesting for them to visit. Finally, they go to tricider where they post their cities, a picture and a short persuasive description of the city they have chosen. The idea is that they post their city, have a look at other cities proposed, and finally vote for one. Homelearning opportunity and final individual task: Sts take pictures or record videos about the places in their own cities. They write a short description. They put together a presentation using video, pictures, and their voice. Further steps: Students get in small groups and they compare an contrast the cities they have selected, and their own.
