A preposition is a word or group of words used before a noun, pronoun, or noun phrase to show direction, time, place, location, spatial relationships, or to introduce an object.
What is preposition?
The name preposition (pre + position) means "place BEFORE". A preposition typically comes BEFORE another word—usually a noun phrase. Prepositions in English are highly idiomatic. Although there are some rules for usage, much preposition usage is dictated by fixed expressions. In these cases, it is best to memorize the phrase instead of the individual preposition.
rules
The first rule is that to make sentences clear, specific prepositions are needed.
The second rule for using prepositions is that prepositions are generally followed by nouns or pronouns.

Prepositions Following Verbs and Adjectives
Some verbs and adjectives are followed by a certain preposition. Sometimes verbs and adjectives can be followed by different prepositions, giving the phrase different meanings.
Example
Learning prepositions in English is really simple and they are very easy to understand. As with everything, the most important thing is to keep practicing and learning to be able to use them fluently when forming a sentence in English.
