Gender equality

WOMEN

Have you ever been told to behave in a certain way because of your gender?

Every society has expectations about what "appropriate" or "typical" behaviour and activities are for girls and boys. For example, girls can't play football and boys don't cry; women do chores at home and men don't.

This is gender stereotyping and it can limit our potential and cause discrimination. If roles or rules in a society favour men or women more, this is gender inequality

Millions of girls around the world can't go to school and as a result, millions of women can't read or write..

Why is gender equality important

Women also suffer discrimination at work, and in many countries, there are laws that limit the types of job women can do. Although girls in Europe often get better exam results than boys, there are still fewer women menagers or politicians, and men nearly always earn more than women for doing the same job
