BLAISE PASCAL
1623 - 1662
He was a French mathematician, physicist, inventor, writer, and theologian. He revolutionized the world from an early age, with inventions ranging from the first calculator to the first public transportation service. His main contributions include Pascal's theorem, pascalin, the existence of a vacuum, or his experiments on atmospheric pressure. He was a man whose purpose was to change the way the world worked and to deliver all of his knowledge to the hands of science.
It is better to know something about everything, than to know everything about one thing.
PASCAL'S PRINCIPLE EXPERIMENT
Hydraulic press with syringes
The objective of the project
Apply Pascal's principle by building a hydraulic press.
Pascal's Principle is a law enunciated by the French physicist and mathematician Pascal, who postulates that: "The pressure exerted on a point of a fluid is transmitted in its entirety and with the same intensity, in all directions."
The hydraulic press, in this case, can be used as a true force multiplier.
RELATIONSHIP WITH THE PROPERTIES OF THE FLUIDS AND PHYSICAL QUANTITIES
ADAPTABILITY
The liquid used in the hydraulic press adapts to the shape of the tubes.
PRESSURE
One of the pistons of the hydraulic press is subjected to a pressure, that is, a force capable of fulfilling the process in which the liquid flows is applied.
VISCOSITY
The liquid contained in the hydraulic press has the ability to flow, thanks to its intermolecular forces.
FABRICATION PROCESS
MATERIALS
- Four syringes of different sizes.
- Serum hose.
- Wooden base with three holes with the same area of the syringes.
ARMED
- Syringes are taken placing one in each hole in the wood according to its area.
- The liquid is introduced into the corresponding syringe.
- Connect the tips of the syringes with the hose, hermetically.
STRUCTURE
The hydraulic press consists of two pistons with different surfaces, in this case the syringes, joined by means of a liquid through a serum hose, in such a way that any pressure applied to one of them will be transmitted to the other. It is used to obtain large forces on the larger piston by making small forces on the smaller one..
WHAT IS THE HYDRAULIC PRESS FOR?
Multiply forces.• It allows us that, by applying small forces, we obtain large forces. • Used for both pressing and lifting heavy objects.
