Playlists are what determines the type of music that will be played for you to guess. For example, you can pick a 2010's pop playlist and the songs played will be songs from that decade and genre.

The main idea of the game is to guess either the title or the artist of a song within a ten second clip. There are four options and the faster you choose the correct one, the more points you will recieve. The points you recieve from guessing correctly are what helps you win PVP games.

PVP mode

In regular PVP (Player vs. Player) mode, you are playing against your friends or another SongPop player from somewhere on earth. Your goal is to correctly guess the song faster than your opponent did. You take turns sending each other playlists. Five songs are played and whoever guesses the most the fastest wins, since they have the most points at the end of the round. The game tells you what answer your opponent picked on their game and when. Your goal while playing your opponent's round should be to guess correctly before their icon appears. This feature really helps when someone sends you a playlist of music you aren't familiar with.

Playlists

By playing PVP games, you collect coins which you can use to buy playlists. There are over 3400 different playlists in the game covering every genre and every decade. There are also playlists of individual artists that just have that one artist's songs on them.To master a playlist you have to guess correctly a lot. Every correct guess gives you some points towards your mastery. Mastering takes a lot of time when you don't pay for VIP benefits.
