Gonorrhea:

TYPE OF INFECTION

Gonorrhea is a sexually transmited bacterial infection. (STI) It’s caused by the bacterium: "Neisseria gonorrhoeae".

how it is transmited

Gonorrhea is transmited through sexual intercourse (vaginal, oral, or anal), with some person that has the disease.

Symptoms

MAle:

Female:

  • Pain in testicles.
  • Discharge from the penis, or anus.
  • Painful urination.
  • Rectal pain, discharge or itching.

The most common and serious complications happen in women.

  • Painful urination.
  • Lower abdominal pain.
  • Trouble having children (infertility).
  • Discharge from the vagina or anus.

  • People with gonorrhea can more easily contract HIV.
  • Gonorrhea can be passed from an infected mother to her baby during delivery.
  • Untreated gonorrhea can cause serious and permanent health problems in both women and men.

TREATMENT

Gonorrhea is easily tested with a laboratory exam. It's cured and controled by antibiotics, as it is made from a becteria. Although, some damage to the body is permanent.

IMPORTANT FACTS

  • Women may experience Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID).
  • Incubation period of 1 – 30 days, averages 2 – 5 days.

Strategies to prevent the disease

Gonorrhea is transmited through sex, vaginal, oral, or anal. That's why it can be easily prevented using a condom while you are having sexual intercourse. If you are continuously having sex, it is also recomended to get tested every year, so you're sure you're safe from any STD.

COnclusions:

How you can avoid or prevent these STD’S?

STD's are transmited through sexual contact, oral, genital, skin-to-skin. So we can prevent and avoid them, using condoms while you are having sex, this way you can be safe from getting any STD. Laboratory tests tell us when we have any infection, so if you are continuously having sexual contact, you should be tested aproximately one time per year, to be sure your body is safe.

Why is it important to talk about STD prevention with any potential sexual partner?

It is important to talk about STD prevention with any potential sexual partner because you have to prevent these infections, know how to do it and have knowledge about the risks of any STD. Specifically you must talk to be safety, to take care about your body health.

Where can you go for help?

You can always go for help with your family. They will support you, and reccomend you some things you could do. They could help you to take some decisions, and control the situation. Also, your doctor could also help you a lot and give you a scientific and professional opinion, he will treat your sickness.

COnclusions

Why is it important to present information in statistical tables and graphs?

It is important because in this way, we can observe clearly the information. We have the opportunity to compare or contrast many aspects of it. Graphs, help us to understand statitics, or many information in just one image. They give us another way to present different facts or details.

Importance of the INTERDISCIPLINARY UNIT BETWEEN SCIENCE AND MATH

I think this interdisciplinary unit was very important because, through mathematical representation, with graphs and charts, we could understand better the importance and danger of STD's. We could see how many people got infected, in what ages and regions, which infections were more common, etc. This activty helped me to raise awareness and to make responsible and balanced decisions. Also, to know how important is to prevent these infections and take care of my health. It was very important to know about the risks of these diseases, the treatment, their types, symptoms and important facts, the relation of math with science was perfect to understand everything about this theme.
