OUR PROBLEM

Our community is very concerned about climate change.

Some people have to leave their homes due to rising sea levels. Other people experience extreme weather conditions like storms and droughts, that limit the access to food and clean water.

HOW DOES CLIMATE CHANGE AFFECT BUENOS AIRES?

Climate is changing impacting human health directly, with an increase in the frequency of extreme events (cold and heatwaves). This creates an increased risk for vulnerable groups, such as children and the elderly. Higher temperatures can negatively affect urban areas by affecting the provision of services such as water and energy by increasing the demand for these services. Flooding is becoming an important hazard in the city too. The frequent floods have caused property damage, loss of income, negative public health impacts, and impaired living and working conditions.

SOS TAKE ACTION NOW - COMMUNITY ACTION PROJECT

Flooding is becoming a regular occurence in many parts of the city.

There are 4 main factors to explain why this is happening to our city:

-The energy sector has been the main source of emissions -In second place, the transport sector -In third place, the waste sector - Finally, deforestation

Our Community Action Goal is to develop social awareness about the consequences of climate change and sustainable ways to deal with it.

OUR PROCESS

We started doing research and discussing interesting environmental facts to create curiosity and an impact in our school community, inviting people to reflect on their own actions and add new ones to live in a more sustainable way.

OUR IDEA

To involve the community in an Art Project.Guided by the Art teacher we made shopping bags using recyclable material. Then we wrote messages on them.

OUR WORK

We collected different types of recyclable material to desing our bags:-paper, newspapers, magazines, cardboard, plastic bags, plastic lids, plastic straws, plastic cutlery, paper towel rolls, milk sachets, toothpick, etc

We displayed the artwork in the corridors. Adults and children understood the importance of our message and felt they had to take action to fight against climate change and live in a better world.

OUR IMPACT

We are going to continue working on this issue by taking our shopping bags into the streets to inspire more people and create a bigger impact in our society.
