Present Continuous

Present Simple

We use present continuous to talk about:

  • actions that are happening now
  • temporary actions

We use present simple to talk about:

  • regular habits and routines
  • permanent situations
  • general and scientific facts

Past Simple

Past Continuous

We use the past simple:

  • describe finished actions or situation in the past
  • to say that one thing happened after another

We use the past Continuous:

  • talk about activities in progress at a moment in the past
  • describe scenes in a story or description

PRESENT PERFECT

We use when it refers to a concluded action or situation that has a connection with the present. It is used to describe an action that happened at not specified time in the past
