Present Simple
We use present continuous to talk about:
- actions that are happening now
- temporary actions
We use present simple to talk about:
- regular habits and routines
- permanent situations
- general and scientific facts
Past Simple
Past Continuous
We use the past simple:
- describe finished actions or situation in the past
- to say that one thing happened after another
We use the past Continuous:
- talk about activities in progress at a moment in the past
- describe scenes in a story or description
