INTRODUCTION
According to earlier belives " Protein" is the genetic material not DNA.
AIM OF THE EXPERIMENT
To identify the fate of phage DNA after it exists the protein coat and enters bateria.
Hershey-Chase blender experiment
- Performed by Alferd Hershey and Martha Chase.
- Used E.coli as host and T-group Bacteriophage as pathogen

T4 Phage was grown in two isotopic mediums containing :i) 35S - to label protein coat ii) 32P - to label DNA
Larger bacteria formed a solid pellet while viruses remained in supernatant.
The viral progeny was released as the bacteria were lysed.
Then the viruses and bacteria were separated via centrifugation.
Viruses were then allowed to infect the E.coli
OBSERVATION AND CONCLUSION
OBSERVATION :
- 32Phosphorus labelled Progeny of phages not 35sulfur
CONCLUSION :
- DNA is the genetic material.
