introduction
During the past years, we have all been through a lot of changes. Some of them are related to Educational Technology or different teaching methods and approaches for Online classes. Recently Relaciones Culturales has done research on new learning and teaching theories and innovations techniques that helped our teachers' development program for Online classes. Our research provided us with meaningful and relevant information, that we will share with you in our 2021 Teacher's Seminar. Relaciones Culturales and our general director, Susan Bryan, cordially invite you to attend this year´s seminar Entitled Innovation+Creativity STEAM: A New Learning Approach to be held on June 25, 26, and 27th.

Flipped learning as an alternative approach in STEAM Education
Flipped learning allows maximizing the use of time in our courses since students can revise basic content outside the STEAM class. In this way, both teachers and students become involved in active learning by focusing on activities related to communication, critical thinking, creativity, problem solving skills and collaboration. Additionally, flipped course practices help us apply recent educational theories such as the constructivist approach. Key points, practical activities and a suggested procedure on how to implement flipped learning will be shown during this workshop.

Step by Step: Our STEAM experience
Today's teaching and learning styles are nowhere near where they were years ago. Teaching has experienced many challenges and necessary changes. Nowadays, students are the future, and this means they have to develop skills that will not only combine the use of language but also acquiring new competencies in areas such as: science, technology, arts, and math. Learning a language while doing STEAM activities allows students to work in real-life situations, problem-solving tasks, developing critical thinking while improving their collaborative abilities. In the past, thinking about using STEAM activities to let students use the new language learned while working in achieving an objective didn't seem feasible, and considering doing them online even seemed impossible. The purpose of this workshop is to give you an insight into what you need to consider to design and prepare an achievable and meaningful STEAM activity while teaching English online. Additionally, this workshop will include a case study conduct

Fostering Creativity in the Language Classroom and in Ourselves
Our social, political and technological worlds are in constant transformation and, within this context, creativity is said to be one of the most critical factors for future success (World Economic Forum, 2020). Our new challenge as educators is to prepare students for this unknown future with skills that will allow them to adapt, problem solve and innovate. But how can they develop these skills in classrooms where the focus continues to be on memorizing discrete language items and grammatical rules? In order to foster creativity in our learners, we must start by transforming the way we teach. In this session, we tackle the big question of why and how teachers can rethink the way they use a coursebook and give practical ideas to allow students and teachers to explore their creative potential.

Date: Sunday June 27th 9:00 AM CDT / 10:20 AM CDT
El enfoque STEAM y su importancia en la formación de niños y niñas.
Integrated STEAM education can be the spark that students need to envision themselves as capable learners with unique insights on our most pressing problems. STEAM is a creative and contextualized way for students to learn and practice school content, but it is also an opportunity to “call in” all students and encourage them as they learn and grow. Dr. Katey Shirey will share her journey as a young artist and scientist who used integrated STEAM to cultivate success in sculpture and physics. Now, as a teacher and teacher trainer, she continues to push the boundaries of STEAM in mainstream education settings to encourage teachers and students to learn from within, not in opposition to, their passions. In her talk, Dr. Shirey will share examples of STEAM as an integrating education approach, her own expressions of STEAM integration, and impacts of STEAM in her experience.

Creating empowered learning experiences through STEAM approach
Change is happening quickly. These changes demand that we work with our students in different ways. If we are going to enable them to thrive in this changing world, empowering them to develop the skills and motivation to solve meaningful problems is more important than ever. Empowerment is about helping students figure out what they can do for themselves. Providing opportunities for voice and choice in learning is how we create learning experiences that empower learners.

21st Century Skills, STEAM, and COVID-19: Looking for Opportunities
In this intervention, we review many ways that the pandemic which began in 2020 has impacted education, with a specific look at the impact on the development of 21st Century Skills in potential STEAM students suddenly thrown into distance or other non-traditional educational environments. After covering some research and common beliefs about “learning loss” and detrimental impacts, we close with a speculative look at some specific areas in which we might find unexpected opportunities, or where learning may be beyond the previous status quo. Though the changes of 2020-21 have been challenging and painful for us all, these areas may be worthy of exploration to those interested in further research, as well as suggesting important factors to consider as we look to the shape which STEAM education may take in the near future.

Teachers’ Perspective: STEAM Teaching Practices a Step Forward to a Full STEAM Implementation in the Bilingual Context.
Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) aims to provide learners skills that can engage them in STEAM-related subjects and eventually pursue STEAM-related majors. Different authors (Sias 2017; Srikoom, 2017) argue that it is recommendable to take advantage of young learners’ curiosity to engage them in STEAM-related subjects such as math and science to awaken their interest in these subjects and improve their performance. However, this endeavor might be challenging when teachers feel unprepared to implement STEAM pedagogy that demands teachers a transition from a teacher-centered to a student-centered instructional approach. Thus, it is important to know about STEM teaching practices and teachers’ perceptions and understand how prepared they are to embrace and implement this approach.

Guiding students to become Inquirers, Thinkers and Innovators
In its essence, education is about preparing students for life. As educators, we need to ask ourselves if what we are doing in our classrooms is in fact supporting our students´workforce competencies and if we are empowering them with carácter-building and transferable skills that they will be able to apply for successful learning, living and working (Allina, 2018). In this plenary we will be discussing why and how STEAM education promotes deeper learning through skills such as problem solving, collaboration, creativity, communication and innovation. We will be looking at what STEAM looks like in the classroom and how we can make it work in different educational settings.

Getting the basics right: Setting up your project-based lesson for STEAM Education
Teachers around the world are always striving to prepare their learners for the real world and its challenges, and STEAM educators are no different. In order to prepare them for authentic academic and work environments in the future, students need to be able to build the knowledge and skills now. What better place than the safety of a classroom? Project-based learning provides opportunities for students to build on what they know actively and to work collaboratively on solving problems that are meaningful to them. In this session, we will explore how to set up a project in your own classroom and the elements worth considering to set everyone up for success. We will also discuss the qualities of an effective project to help you design or choose the most appropriate for your students’ needs and interests.

Nowadays, teaching has become a challenge. Teaching online involves developing digital skills to teach a language or a science class effectively. Teachers must be more creative and use different kinds of strategies to get students’ attention. Hence, during these difficult times, technology has been a support for teaching and learning, since it can expand course offerings, learning materials and increase students’ engagement. Fortunately, there is a wide variety of resources teachers can use such as online dictionaries, videos, interactive activities, games and many other tools. The purpose of this workshop is to give an insight into the most useful digital resources language and STEM teachers can use in their online classes to promote students’ learning and interaction in digital platforms. Moreover, this workshop aims to provide teachers with the tools and knowledge to apply these tools in their classes so that they can develop different abilities in their students.

Using Classroom Activities to Enhance Soft Thinking Skills.
In recent years, there has been a shift in the way in which people’s abilities are being valued both in educational and professional contexts. Traditionally, “Hard Thinking Skills” have been prioritized in education by providing learners with opportunities to gain new information and analyze content or data. However, recent studies show how abilities to think outside of the box, problem-solving and the use of socio-emotional skills such as resilience, have proven to be the ones that enable people not only to get jobs but also to access leadership positions. The aim of this session is to discuss the rationale behind “Soft Skills” and how, as practitioners, we can support our learners in the development of these essential Skills for the 21st century.
