ONCE UPON A TIME...
A fairy tale is a narrative text. It is a make-believe story that usually includes magical elements. Fairy tales are commonly set in a faraway land. They usually start with the phrase, “Once upon a time.” Fairy tale characters often include children, animals and magical creatures. There is normally a brave hero who must defeat or outsmart an evil villain. Most fairy tales end with the phrase, “They all lived happily ever after.”

Usually, a narrative story focus on the feelings and wishes of the main character of the story. Story is unfolded around them. And, if we change the focus of the story, the point of view, the story itself, change also. Orientation, Context (the beginning) Once upon a time, there lived a young girl called Little Red Riding Hood. One day, her mother asked her to take some cake and cough medicine to her sick grandmother. Grandmother lived in a small house in the woods. Who is in the story? Little Red Riding Hood and Grandmother When and where does the story happen? Long time ago, in the woods.

Complication(the middle)During her journey through the woods, Little Red Riding Hood met a wolf. The wolf tricked Little Red Riding Hood into picking flowers so he could beat her to Grandmother’s house. He planned to eat them both for his lunch! What is the main problem? Little Red Riding Hood met a wolf and by naivety, put in danger herself and Grandmother.

The door was badly closed. The wolf got into the house.
The grandmother got sick. Little Red Riding went to visit her.
Little Red Riding Hood was blind to the warning signals (the door is open, the face is wrong etc.). The wolf threw her into the wardrobe with her grandmother
The wolf relaxed and fell asleep, began to snore. The woodsman came and save Little Red Riding Hood and her grandmother.
The grandmother was sick and weak. The wolf threw her into the wardrobe.

At that time, the woodsman was passing the house. He heard the loud snoring and thought to himself, “Goodness! That snoring is very loud for such a small old lady! I might just see if she is alright.” So, he quietly went inside the house. How is the problem resolved? The woodsman went inside the house.

When the woodsman came to the bed, he saw that the wolf was lying in it. Quietly, he raised his ax above his head. He yelled at the wolf in his loudest, fiercest voice, “Hey! Wolf! If you ever come back here again, I’ll chop you into pieces... just like I do with the trees!” The wolf jumped up and ran away, whimpering to himself. He was never to be seen again. How is the problem resolved? The wolf ran away.

Little Red Riding Hood
The woodsman heard Little Red Riding Hood shouting out from the wardrobe. He opened the door. The little girl sprang out. “Oh, thank you, kind woodsman! How frightened we’ve been!” she cried. “Please help my grandmother. She is not at all well.” The woodsman helped Grandmother back to bed. They all shared the cake that Little Red Riding Hood had brought. Afterward, Little Red Riding Hood decides to never stray from the path again!How is the problem resolved? Little Red Riding Hood and her grandmother were liberated from the wardrobe.

Orientation, Context (the beginning) Just as Little Red Riding Hood entered the woods, a wolf crossed her path. “Good day, Little Red Riding Hood,” said the wolf. “Where are you going today?” “I’m taking some cake and cough syrup to my sick grandmother,” replied Little Red Riding Hood. “Her house stands under the three large oak trees, and the nut trees are just below.” The wolf decided that he must capture both the young girl and the old lady for his lunch. In his mind, he began to form a cunning plan. Who is in the story? Little Red Riding Hood, Grandmother, and Wolf When and where does the story happen? In the afternoon, in the woods.

Little Red Riding Hood, Grandmother, and Wolf. When and where does the story happen? In the afternoon, in the house.
