Start
NOAM CHOMSKY
- Often referred to as "Father of Modern Linguistics".
- December 7, 1928
- an American linguist, philosopher, and social critic.
Noam Chomsky's Universal Grammar
The theory was popularized by an American linguist named Noam Chomsky who often focused on the effortless language learning of young children.
Noam Chomsky's Universal Grammar
According to Chomsky’s theory, the basic structures of language are already encoded in the human brain at birth.
Noam Chomsky's Universal Grammar
For example, every language has a way to ask a question or make something negative.
For example:
(FRUITS) Other variation of languages are the fruits of English.
(ROOT) English is the "mother" of all languages.
Noam Chomsky's Universal Grammar
This “universal grammar theory” suggests that every language has some of the same laws.
principles of universal grammar
1. Every child knows basic grammar rules.
Noam Chomsky believed that humans are born with an innate ability to learn languages.
2. All languages follow the same grammar structure.
If the basic grammar laws are the same for all languages, a child needs only to follow the particular set of rules that his peers follow in order to understand and produce their native language
3. Kids don't make expected grammatical mistakes.
Their environment determines which language he will use, but he is born with the tools to learn any language effectively.

Performance Task
Universal Grammar
Start
1. The class will be divided into 5 groups.2. Each group must look for an existing research that utilizes Noam Chomsky's Universal Grammar. 3. The team will present the study to the class next meeting.
4. The presentation should cover the ff:- What is the research all about? - What made you choose that research? - Is that research accepting or rejecting the Universal Grammar Theory of Noam Chomsky?
5. Each presentation should only last for 10-15 minutes.6. Secure the participation of all members. All members should have their chance to speak.
Thank you!
