HYDROCARBONS
A hydrocarbon is an organic chemical that is made up of carbon and hydrogen elements only.
NAMING
The end of the name is given by the number of bonds between carbon atoms. If there are only single bonds the name ends with '-ane', if there is at least one double bond the name ends in '-ene', and if there is at least one triple bond the name ends in '-yne'.
ALKANE
It is an acyclic saturated hydrocarbon. Alkanes have the general formula of CnH2n+2 where n is the number of carbon atoms.
alkyl
Alkanes with unbranched carbon chains are simply named by the number of carbons in the chain. The first four members of the series (in terms of number of carbon atoms) are named as follow.
Organic chemical that contains only carbon and hydrogen atoms, which are arranged in a chain. They have general formula CnH2n+1.
