The lost city of El Dorado

Home

In 1534 a ship loaded with gold arrived in the port of Seville which aroused amazement throughout Europe: it was a large spoil of war - about 10 tons of gold and 70 tons of silver - that the conquistador Francisco Pizarro had plundered from the population of Peru. The load consisted of heavy gold and silver ingots produced in the foundries of the New World, all objects were melted down to facilitate transport and an invaluable artistic heritage was lost. At the sight of these riches the legend spread that beyond the ocean there must have been the land of Eldorado, a region where gold flowed in rivers, still to be explored.

Home

The legend about the abundance of gold still contained a grain of truth because the ruler of the Muisca in Colombia, Guatavita, once a year had his body sprinkled with gold dust to transform himself into the Dorado, the golden man. Guatavita went with his court on a lake near Santafé de Bogotá and sailing on a raft with precious gifts, he offered his treasure to the gods. Some people claimed that El dorado was really him, and that there was no place full of riches and treasures, however many structures of a hypothetical city were found in the twentieth century

Home

For centuries, explorers have chased the mirage of the Eldorado, sifting at the cost of their lives the forests along the Amazon River: the country was never found, but equally the booty was rich in objects, sculptures and jewels. The first expedition that started the legend was that of the conquistadors Hernàn Cortès. No one ever found the city of gold, but at least the explorers contributed to the exploration of the dense Amazonian forests, still largely unexplored today.

The Nazca Lines and their mysteries

Home

History

In southern Peru, in a desert area of four hundred square kilometers, the Nazca lines are a complex of over 13,000 continuous traces and almost 300 geometric drawings or figures, from a minimum of 25 to a maximum of 275 meters in length. First sighted in 1927, they still constitute one of the greatest mysteries of modern archeology. It is difficult to establish with certainty who traced them, when and with which techniques and above all to decipher their meaning.

Hypothesis and Mysteries

they are thought to have been traced between 300b.C. and the 700AD. from a civilization that lived in Peru before the Inca by removing the upper layer of pebbles in the desert. it is inexplicable how the authors could have followed the good progress of the works because they are clearly visible only from a height of 300 meters. the whole complex is hypothesized to be a large astronomical calendar of the equinoxes or a solar calendar. The most plausible hypothesis is that they were avenues consecrated to the gods of fertility and used for religious rites.

The spider and the aliens

one of the most complex figures is the spider, in fact it is a particular species that lives hundreds of kilometers from Nazca and which has as a characteristic a genital organ on a leg visible only under a microscope, this therefore makes it inexplicable how these ancient civilizations could know this animal and know this detail. The most intriguing hypothesis, however, is that the lines are recall symbols for UFOs and that it was the aliens who helped the population to draw these lines.

Ius Primae Noctis:a medieval fake news

Home

What is ius primae noctis? Is the alleged "right" according to which, by virtue of a law or custom that made it lawful, a feudal lord could rape a newly married woman on her wedding night without either the spouses or relatives resisting him . Many works set in the Middle Ages tell the legend of the ius primae noctis fueling this legend which however remains so.

Home

Did the Ius primae noctis really exist? The answer is no, and Alessandro Barbero, professor of Medieval History at the University of Eastern Piedmont explains how it is possible to demonstrate that the Ius primae noctis is a medieval fake news. During the Moby Dick Festival in Terranuova Bracciolini, Professor Barbero spoke on the theme of Ius primae noctis and underlined how in many Italian countries the foundational myths are linked to a revolt of the people against the feudal lord who demanded the Ius primae noctis.

Are there any testimonials? There are no documents that speak of the Ius primae noctis but only some mentions in the late Middle Ages or even after the Middle Ages. The first mention of the Ius primae noctis is from the end of the 15th century, but it is a rhetorical device to complain about the previous centuries, centuries where the lords oppressed the population for centuries. Many works set in the Middle Ages tell the legend of the ius primae noctis fueling this legend which however remains so.
