An Inspector Calls

A mysterious inspector arrives at the Birling´s house (a rich family, that had been part of the novelty) and interrupts their dinner telling them the terrible news that a girl called Eva Smith had committed suicied. Mr Birling felt angry because they were celebrating a special occasion (their daughter's engagement), but inspector Goole is not here to discuss, he's here to interrogate.

Eva Smith is a character that represents the lower class, the community and she is an archetype for all the other people that formed part of the society. It teaches the viewer that we have to take care of each other and that besides her, there are a lot of people that could have suffered the same destiny.

The ring: this means money and power for Arthur and Sybil Birling. They realize that if Sheila and Gerald marry, their company and the Croft´s would merge, which would bring them a lot of cash. For their daughter, it means love at the beginning of the movie, then when Gerald confesses he had an affair with Eva, that symbol of attachment fades away. The ring also means in our opinion Sheila was thinking out of the box because a lot of women in that period (because of machismo) would have forgiven him.
