What is slavery?
Slavery in Belize, other Central American countries and the Caribbean region was one of the most preferred course of action of gaining income and increasing the standard of living for the British merchants and slave traders. Thus, these slaves were owned by their masters and were placed to work for them.
These slaves were mistreated & worked to death.
They were African Slaves mostly said to be creoles.
Arrived in Belize in the 1800s.
They came from the West Indies & West Africa
Slavery was profitable & increased economic growth.
Causes of slavery
The British settled mainly to cut logwood & mahogany. However, logwood prices and demand started to declined. Thus, mahogany became profitable.
