What's in a quote?

All you need is love

Manon G

I am not a poet or a soldier but I will always fight for love until my last breath. You are my only one you make all the things surrounding us beautiful and pure. My heart is desperate and my mind lost without you. Your kisses put my skin on fire and your loving words make me completely yours. I was alone, scared and lost as the hull of a drifting ship: you appeared to me as a savior : you are the light that keep me alive. Everybody thinks that love is childish and manipulative: then for a long moment I felt unworthy of love. But the first time I saw you I already knew that you would be the one for me. Love is for sure a risky feeling: It can bring us back to life and also cause our death. But that feeling is also plenty and deep: it is worthy. Love unites us: you breathe I breathe; you cry I comfort you; you smile I smile: Every time I see you, I fall all over again in love, perpetually because “whatever our souls are made, his and mine are the same”

Whatever souls are made of, his and mine are the same

Charlène P

This quote is, in my opinion, a good representation of the feelings that a person feels for their boyfriend or girlfriend. When you love someone, you feel like your souls are complementary and want to evolve in the future together. When two persons have lived together and loved each other for a long time they begin to feel or do the same things and even to have the same habits as the other, as their soulmate. This is really true, for me when I love someone I just think of him and I feel like I am him and he is me. Our soul, our personality, our feelings match together and we can think like one. Therefore, for me, it really represents reality.

"Whatever souls are made of, his and mine are the same" Emily Bronte, Wuthering Heights

My dear love, I spent 4 years with you, the best 4 years of my life. We met at Gabriel’s party but I was already in love with you. I saw you for the first time at Target (yes I know it’s not really romantic) and it was love at first sight. I had never felt this way before and I thought I would never see you again. But life does great things and I saw you again 2 weeks later, at a party that I even didn’t want to go but finally I have no regrets. I remember we started dating on the 3rd January 2017. You knocked at my door to ask me if I wanted to go to the amusement park with you. You were so shy! I remember when I came back to my house, I said to my mother “Whatever souls are made of, his and mine are the same” and today I’m still sure of that. When I think about you, I see your brown eyes, your dark hair, I hear your voice and I remember our nights of laughing, our days at the amusement park, our afternoons of cooking and I want you to know, if you can hear me, that I will never forget you. I miss you, every minute of my life I miss you and I can’t believe that I will never see you again. I lost the love of my life and I am mad at destiny because it deprived me of the only person who makes me happy. And now, I just hope you are great in the company of angels. I will love you forever my soulmate.

The perfection of a statement is not found in the letters and great metaphors but in the beauty of the present moment that paints the words with all colors. We paint the words and fill them with value. The goal is to engage our interlocutor. The color of these words will capture and unleash an arrow in the heart. Love will survive the course of the glow. From its definition it is a lively and intense feeling it is a matter of identifying oneself. But what is true love? Love is a complex mix, it is at the same time the infatuated love, the empty love, the romantic love, the complicit love, the crazy and fulfilling love. When we fall in love, it’s a temporary madness, our feelings explode like an earthquake. It’s showing your soul, it’s when your heart ignites.Search by everyone above the clouds, with time it crosses all ages. To love is to hate oneself to make war again and again without even wanting to win it.These emotions form a whirlpool of undiscovered mystery.Love is not a definite phenomenon; it is neither breath-taking nor excitement. It is not the exchange of promise or passion.Love is both mission, quest and discovery. We have to find out if our roots and those of the other end up being so intertwined that it would be essential to separate them. Because that’s what loving is.True love is what’s left when you stop being in love, it’s an art and a happy accident. Those who truly love are roots that grow and intertwine and when all the beautiful flowers fall, only one tree will be standing.Loving is to pick up the pieces and pick up the pieces without ever stopping. It is then necessary to accept love and all its complexities.

You should be kissed and often, and by someone who knows how.

It’s a quote that my ex told me, but now we have broken. So that proves that men are just smooth talkers: this sentence made me fall in love but now I hate it for a good reason . I hate him and all the words that he pronounced. He probably said that to many girls before and after me. So girls don’t fall in his arms, all the boys are the same they want a girl but the next day they want another one , they can't be honest and faithful. And boys , just a piece of advice: we know everything and mostly when you lie it’s a superpower !

"I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, then all at once", he said, hugging her under a beautiful starry sky. He added, taking her hand, "all I want is to be able to love you for as many years as there are stars in the sky". She looked at him straight in the eye and answered "I love you and I think there is no better place than your arms to protect and cherish me" both were thinking about the same thing at the same time. "Love each other sincerely, no matter what we go through together, even if we have to be separate like the moon and the sun, whatever happens, we will meet again". So they took each other's hands and ran to the top of the highest hill in town, sat on a bench and they wrote "whatever happens I love you" on this one. They fell asleep in each other's arms until the sun rose, shining, giving way to a soft light emerging from the deep blue of the ocean.

I fell in love the way you fall asleep...

John Green’s 2012 novel “The Fault in Our Stars” tells the story of two star-crossed lovers: Hazel Grace Lancaster and Augustus Waters. I find this quote very interesting to study. Indeed, for man love is a very complicated feeling to define, it has several meanings, it is not felt in the same way according to the individuals. It is thus a very personal feeling. Thus, it is possible to hear that one can fall in love in one go. It is the case in particular when there is love at first sight. This would mean that the quote is false. But it is not necessarily real. It is not really love in the sense that we understand it but rather, the fact that it is possible to be attracted to someone we hardly know, or even to whom we have never spoken, just like that, in a glance. But love at first sight has nothing to do with love, which needs intimacy and time to grow! Love at first sight has to do with attraction. So, when this quote says that love is like sleeping, it takes time, the comparison is right. Especially since with time, and once you are in love, you become yourself. It's just like sleeping in the end. We also don't know when we really fall in love. It is not a precise moment but rather on a period, on a duration. Let's go back to the comparison made by Green, when you fall asleep slowly, you can't define when you wake up, at what precise moment you fell asleep because it happens over a period of time. But when you have fallen asleep, you are totally asleep. With love you are more between the desire to sleep and the fact that you are awake.

“We love the things we love for what they are.” Robert Frost, from his poem “Hyla Brook”.

Robert Frost wrote this in 1916. At the time, this sentence made perfect sense. For instance, I see in this sentence a metaphor for love, at that time we fell in love with someone for who they were, because it was done in another way, communication in particular. But what about today? According to my observations, things are no longer loved for what they are. I think that nowadays they are loved for what they bring us, for what they appear to be. As soon as we no longer find what we are looking for in them, we get rid of them, whereas these things have remained the same since the beginning. Then, precisely, instead of being satisfied with what it is, we ask it to change in order to meet our expectations. Most of us have become selfish and dissatisfied beings.

All you need is love

In life, the only thing you need is love. It’s my guideline. And even if nobody gives you love, you can give yourself love. And for me it’s the basis. If you don’t learn how to love yourself then don’t even try to be happy or to be at your best. It’s very simple you’re the best and you know your worth. The Beatles said “All you need is love” and it’s true because love is everywhere, and if you want to be stronger accept all of this love, don’t fall in those bad feelings like hate or anger, just try to find love in the deepest part of yourself and in everyone, accept this love, cause you’ll never have too much love.

We had been there for weeks, maybe months. I had lost track of time; the days were so similar. The atmosphere was heavy, you could feel the suffering and death. I didn't know if my children were safe. The thought that they were alone, left to themselves, made me sick. Our days consisted in working, or rather killing ourselves for these fucking Germans. Sleeping, eating what little we could find and working like dogs, that's what the day of a Jew in Auschwitz was all about. My name was Fajwel and my wife Chaïa and we were deported from Drancy on convoy 57 in November 1943. Time passed and my wife gradually began to suffer. I knew that her days were numbered if we did not find something to treat her quickly. We knew what was going on there, the so-called “final solution”, we had discovered its real meaning, and it was through this that we would all perish. I became friend with a man who had come on the same convoy as us. He spent his nights making plans to get away from this hell. It was an April evening, it was cold but the sky was beautiful. The sky was my only comfort, to see that the stars would always watch over us. That evening the Germans were celebrating because a new convoy had arrived. It was the ideal moment because they were less vigilant. My friend came to me discreetly and asked me to go with him. At that moment I was faced with a difficult choice, the hardest choice of my life; my wife's health did not allow her to come with us. It was then that I made the most meaningful choice of my life, but also the most just. Because it was impossible for me to live without her, our love was so strong that I would have died for her. That's what I did, all I needed was her love and nothing was more important to me than that. To live without her would have destroyed me. We died in the Auschwitz Birkenau camp on July 23, 1944 because we were Jewish, but at least we were madly in love and this love will remain forever. If I tell you this story, it is because for me it is the most beautiful proof of love that I have ever been told. This story is the story of my family, it is my story. And it proves that all you need is love.

Know thyself: Identity

Bouaza B.

Once upon a time, somewhere in the world, there was a family. A great and happy family. There was a father, a mother and a child. They didn’t have names and they didn’t know anyone. They didn’t need to have a name. One day, they met tourists on their island. They were calling each other with unknown and weird words: “Max”, “Lolly”, “Paul”… The family decided to encounter them and simply ask them: "Please, what are these words? What do they represent for you?" "These words as you said are names." "And what is a name?" one said. "They are our identity, this is us." Max answered. "Is this so important? I want a name too!" "Oh! Sophia will be great for you! That sounds so beautiful" Lolly offered."Yes, I like it! Thank you for your help dear.”The tourists left the island and the family lived happily ever after with their names…

What's in a name?

Be yourself, everyone else is already taken

Be yourself; everyone else is already taken, I was tired of being in the line, of being part of a group of friends that I didn't like that much, I was just afraid of being alone and not being accepted. So I decided to get together with some real friends that I really liked. So we bought a van and came up with the idea of driving across New Zealand. During this trip I was able to be myself, not to restrict my emotions, my feelings, my personality, I realized that this trip was the most positive thing in my life, especially being with the right people who also let go, and that I learned to appreciate even more. To have discovered new personalities, to be different myself, it is thanks to this famous advice that can only be beneficial for everyone, society would be much better, original, fascinating if the crowd stopped being a crowd.

The self is not something one finds...

In your body and in your head, during your life you are exposed to change. We all know about the teenage crisis because teens are looking for themselves. But indeed we must explain to them that"The self is not something one finds: it's something one creates",the way they feel with their style, through what they like to listen to, to read, to do...And they can't be put into boxes and nobody can oppose who they really are because their identity is the only way to their happiness.

Let your mind go, let your mind be free Freedom!

PEOPLE’S VOICE

Freedom, freedom , OH DEAR FREEEEDOOMMM !!!It’s all we want. We all want it … Child, Adult, Black, White !This freedom is the air we have wanted to breathe. Since the dawn of night !But the only thing is a knee over our neck that prevents us from breathing this delicious fresh air .DID YOU HEAR ME !Freedom, our freedom, what is RIGHTFULLY mine to have, cost the life of so many people !Oh LORD ! But you know what ?! Their lives make things change because"THERE IS NO EASY WALK TO FREEDOM ANYWHERE."We have always been fighting for our freedom, equality, justice and there are a lot of things that have changed. Things that we never thought we would see one day !People often ask: Why did they do that ? Why didn’t they leave things act like that ?But the only thing I can tell them is that "YOU NEVER REALLY UNDERSTAND A PERSON UNTIL YOU CONSIDER THINGS FROM HIS POINT OF VIEW… UNTIL YOU CLIMB INSIDE OF HIS SKIN AND WALK AROUND IN IT." So dear Brothers and Sisters, FREEDOM begins when you understand and help each otherThere isn’t freedom without understanding .

This is your life

Stronger than death and grief

Camille B

You die in the middle of your life , in the middle of a sentence . You die when there is nothing left to say .You die when your soul turns grey before your lips turn blue .You die when you don’t even know you were living . You die when you stop jumping from your seat to get on your feet and choose the easy way out . When no one remember your scars , when no one remembers their own stories .The Dead surround us everyday , every morning , every night . They talk to us through letters and phone calls . But the Dead is not the worst . The ghosts are .The ones of every regret , every remorse , everything that could have been and never was . They haunt you through the veil in your eyes and the shadows in your hearts . And then when you die they welcome you home . Life belongs to the living but most of us are already dead .

My dear friend. I still can’t believe you’re gone. The fights continue but it’s only a question of time until we win. The enemy troops are retreating in every place we go. When we first met, we had nothing to fight for and this made our strength. I’m alone now. If you could talk to me, I bet you would tell me that I won because you died before me. You’d also say that it’s because we had nothing to fight for that we were so strong. I still remember that thing you used to say when we were in tough positions: «Give a stick to a man who has nothing to fight for and he’ll take down an army.» You know, your death left a huge scar in all our section. I promised you to not be attached to you and you did the same. But I’m hurt, I miss you. After your death, our captain said 'Grief is the price we pay for love', and you know damn well that he is a pain in the ass, and it kills me to write this but I know he’s right. I can’t deal with the fact you’re gone. I love you brother… I miss you.

Grief is the price we pay for love

Tell the truth or someone will tell it for you

Henry David Thoreau, Walden

Do you know the truth? Have you ever experienced truth, like the real and full truth? I don’t think so. Truth is as precious as emerald but as rare as gold. It can hurt a lot even if it is precious. Real truth is hard to find (even in history books) because there is always much left to interpretation which can make a sentence not purely true. To discover real truth, you need a lot of patience, wisdom, and desire. Your heart needs to be pure, and you must want to find this trueness badly because being totally true can have consequences on your relationship! However, I said before that truth was precious and it's true because on this feeling, we can build trust, passion, and honesty. Henry David Thoreau said, “rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth”. I think that’s relevant to what I said because you can be loved as much as you could but if there are always lies you can’t be happy, you can’t trust the person and love them back. So, after this speech you should tell at least one of your secrets to someone you love, try and you will be closer to that person.
