introduction

Troy is a legendary city in present-day northwestern Turkey. Its archaeological site contains several layers of ruins and portions of the famous walls of Troy are still visible.

The Wall of Troy’s construction began in 122 after Christ following the visit of the Roman emperor Hadrian, and was completed in six years.

The wall of Troy is now located in the province of Çanakkale in Turkey, near the Dardanelles Strait, between the Scamandro River and the Simoenta and occupies a strategic position for access to the Black Sea.

HOW AND WHY

How what little is known it can be deduced that it was also built almost entirely of stone and no longer of clay bricks. It was built to defend against enemies during the Trojan War.

ACCORDING TO THE MYTH

It was the gods Poseidon and Apollo who provided the city with great walls and fortifications around the inhabited perimeter, so that it could become impregnable. They did it for Laomedon, son of Ilo and his successor to the throne. Carried out what was agreed, at the end of the works Laomedonte refused to pay the agreed salary: Poseidon then, in revenge, flooded the countryside, destroying the crops, and unleashed a sea monster that devoured the inhabitants.
