How Can I Read Books?

1. How to Access CPL Online

Students can access CPL a couple of different ways: First, they can open Google Chrome and log into their school learn account (username@cssd.ab.ca). Once logged in, a "CSSD Bookmarks" tab will be visible in the bookmarks bar. Students can click on this bookmark, then click on "CPL Digital Library." Alternatively, the website can be found in Google by searching for "CPL Digital Library."

2. Exploring CPL With My School Account (K-6 Only)

You will see access buttons like this one - to log in, you will need to click on one of these buttons!

E-resources EASE-OF-ACCESS program allows CSSD K-6 students access to CPL digital resources! The best part is that you don't even need a library card for this! Students can log in to specific CPL resources using their Google Learn email address (username@learn.cssd.ab.ca) and password (generally their district ID number, unless the student has changed it, no preceding zeros required). Division one students’ password is 1234567.

3. How to Get a Library Card

In order to access all of the physical resources that Calgary Public Library offers, students and their families can sign up for a free library card. A card will grant access BOOKS; programs for all ages; internet services at library locations; Chromebook and laptop rentals; and printing services. NOTE: Children under 18 years old need parental permission to sign up for a card. There are NO overdue fines, only replacement charges for lost books.

Accessing all of CPL's resources, including physical items is easy with a library card! It's free and only takes minutes to sign up.

4. What Does CPL Offer?

Calgary Public Library offers: Physical books, CDs, DVDs, magazines, musical instruments, etc (in many languages) Homework help for students Classes of all types, for all ages Digital resources like ebooks, audiobooks, databases, and various learning tools Reading challenges (with prizes!) 5. How to Read Books

A student CSSD account will allow you access to thousands of great ebooks and audiobooks, but you might want a library card if you prefer to read physical books. There are a few different ways that you can read at home with just your school account. Check them out! NoveList K-8 provides reading recommendations for kids. Note: Without a library card, books can't be placed on hold or saved to a "shelf,"
