EUROPEAN PARLAMENT
The European Parliament is the directly elected parliamentary institution of the European Union. There are 705 MPs from 27 EU countries, in 7 political groups, representing 477 million people.
THE EUROPEAN ECONOMIC AND SOCIALCOMMITTEE
Is an advisory body of the European Union, representing employers, workers and various activities (farmers, consumers, NGOs, professions, etc.). It constitutes what is called "organized civil society". It is based in Brussels.
THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION
Is one of the seven institutions of the European Union. It holds the executive power and the legislative initiative. It is in charge of proposing legislation, enforcing community decisions, defending Union treaties and generally dealing with the daily affairs of the Union.
THE EUROPEAN COUNCIL
Is one of the seven high institutions of the EU. It is made up of the 27 Heads of State or Government of the Member States, the President of the European Commission, and the President of the European Council, who presides over the meetings.
