1900
On November 21st, there was a shooting in Croke Park Stadium. A Gaelic football match was playing when the British police broke into Croke Park and shot people in the crowd.
14 people were killed on this day.
1920
The GAA created a competition to promote not only sport but also dancing, singing, poetry, storytelling and performances. They wanted to include cultural activities and show the richness of Irish culture. This competition is called Scor competition.
1969
There was a rugby match between England and Ireland. It was the first time that an English sport was played in Croke Park.This marks a step in the reconciliation between the British and the Irish.
2007
Ireland is a bilingual country. Most people speak English but they also speak Gaelic. It’s part of their culture and identity.There is a revival of the Gaelic language today, mainly through social medias. On this year, the song « Wake me up » had a Gaelic version which was very popular.
