The Queen

The Queen are a British rock band, born in London in 1970 from the meeting of the singer and pianist Freddie Mercury with the guitarist Brian May and the drummer Roger Taylor; the historical group was completed in 1971 when the bass player John Deacon joined it.

The true fame exploded in 1975 with the single "Bohemian Rhapsody", a song that remained on the top of the English charts for nine weeks, breaking all records. This song mixes opera with hard rock. Their songs range from rock to pop, with shades ranging from heavy metal to country.

Among the best songs of the quartet, apart from Bohemian Rhapsody we remember: We Are the Champions, Love of My Life, The Show Must Go On, Radio Ga Ga, Another One Bites the Dust, I Want to Break Free, and many others. Their first collection in 1981 is the most purchased album ever in the UK, with over six million copies sold. Freddie Mercury died on 24th November 1991 and the band broke up in 1997.

Roger Taylor

Roger Taylor was born on July 26th, 1949. He is best known for being the drummer of the Queen. His first musical experience begins in the parish choir, after he plays the guitar but he knows the drums. In 1967 a friend of his informs him of a group looking for a drummer, he calls and Brian May answers the phone and makes him join his group of students.

The group, however, does not last long, but you know how life goes: a door closes and a door opens. May and Taylor meet a young man from Zanzibar with an incredible voice and rock star charisma. His (stage) name is Freddie Mercury. This is how the Queen legend begins.

The world of music is divided on him: according to some he is in the TOP 100 of the best drummers in history, according to others he was only lucky enough to meet Freddie. The fact is that with drums and snare he created an immortal hit called “We Will Rock You”

In an interview he said: “Rhythm is something you have inside, or not. And the wrists are important because it is with those that you strike”. “The drummer leads the band, he has to add something to the sound and not just be part of everything that keeps time. The most important thing is to play by putting yourself at the service of the song”.

For me the engine of music, the teacher of rhythm is the drummer! I started at play drums when I was 7 years old. I hope that I will continue to play the drums.
