The short story Eisenheim the Illusionist is about a popular growing illusionist that is most known for his world-defying acts and leaving people surprised with mystery and surprise. The issue, however, is that his acts became so realistic, people began to think he sold his soul to the devil in return for unholy powers. He then began a feud with two magicians, Benedetti and Passaeaur. Eisenheim outright beat Benedetti but was at first not able to compete with Passaeaur and even took a break from magic all together. After the break he started a new kind of trick, materialization.

In Eisenheim, the is fear of change

Fear of change and difference. In the story the police officer, Herr Uhl, fears that with Eisenheim’s growing popularity, Jewish background and controversial acts, he would actually shift the people’s views on the unification of the Empire in an attempt to dismantle and discombobulate it.

As his act once again began to defy reality and grow in popularity, Officer Herr Uhl wanted to have Eisenhiem arrested on 100 occasions for disrupting public order. Despite his popularity and presence, he was never caught, and in fact in his final act he disappeared, never to be seen from again.

Summary Part 1

When Eisenheim's astounding illusions reached the powerful and pragmatic Crown Prince Leopold, the ruler attends one of the magician's shows in order to debunk Eisenheim during the performance. However, when the Prince's intended, Sophie von Teschen, assists the magician onstage, Eisenheim and Sophie recognize each other from their childhoods—and a dormant love affair is rekindled. .

Which one Did I like?

As the clandestine romance continues, Uhl is charged by Leopold to intensify his efforts to expose Eisenheim, even while the magician gains a devoted and vocal public following. With Uhl doggedly searching for the reasons and the man behind the trickery, Eisenheim prepares to execute his greatest illusion yet.

I liked the Short story better because it was more descriptive.
