Present perfect with since, for, just, already, yet

Tuesday, May 11, 2021

Lesson objective:

Use time expressions in present perfect.

Already (+)

Already means that something happened earlier than we expected. Examples:

I have already done my homework.

Just

'Just' is used to indicate that something happened in the immediate past, that is a very short time ago. Examples:

The taxi has just arrived.

Yet (? , -)

Yet means that something that we expected hasn't happened. Examples:

I haven't done my homework yet.

For

We use for with a period of time, for example: a few days, half an hour, two years.

I haven't seen my friend for two years.

Since

We use since with the time when the action started. For example: last year, June 8.

I haven't seen my friend since 2019.

Exercise: Write one example for each time expression.

Thank you!
