Jerome bruner

BASIC CONCEPTS:

  • language is acquired as the result of interactions that help the infant develop
  • language language learning happens due to the process of socialization; hence the child is learning to be part of the community
  • interactions provide the infant with language acquisition support structures
  • The aim of education should be to create autonomous learners (i.e., learning to learn).
  • In his research on the cognitive development of children (1966), Jerome Bruner proposed three modes of representation:
  • Enactive representation (action-based)
  • Iconic representation (image-based)
  • Symblic representation (language-based)
