Can / Can't
Modal Verbs / Modal Auxiliaries / Auxiliaries
Can't: lack of ability or inability
Can: ability or skill
There are more modal verbs. We will focus on these now, and study others later. We may find other meanings for these as well.
POSITIVE SENTENCE: I can speak English. (I am able to speak English.) NEGATIVE SENTENCE: He can't / cannot swim. (He isn't able to swim.) YES/NO QUESTION: Can you dance? (Are you able to dance?) YES/NO ANSWER Yes, I can. / No, I can't. INFORMATION QUESTION: WHAT can you do? ANSWER: I can dance, sing, and cook delicious food.

Modals come BEFORE the SIMPLE form of the verb. Modals CANNOT be changed.
