What is energy?
Miss Ma. Carolina
Concept of energy
-Objects and living things change and carry out different processes. -Energy can help: 1. Birds fly 2. Plants grow 3. People walk in streets. Also of those are made with the help of energy.
Energy is the capacity of objects or systems to change or make the objects modify their properties over time.
Forms of energy
-Energy appears in many forms in daily lives and in nature.-Some forms of energy are: 1. KINETIC ENERGY: Energy that has relation with the movement of objects. Example: a cyclist moving or the blades of a wind mill. 2. THERMAL ENERGY: objects or bodies that can emit heat. Example: the Sun, stove or our own body (thermal energy)
Forms of energy
3. SOUND ENERGYEnergy associated with waves of sound. 4. LIGHT ENERGY Is the one transported by light. Examples: a lamp and stars. 5. CHEMICAL ENERGY Energy supplied by food. Examples: oil and natural gas (fuel) 6. GRAVITATIONAL POTENCIAL ENERGY All objects at height. Example: a skier at the top of a mountain
eLECTRICAL ENERGY
Many of the activities we do need electrical energy. In our homes, this type of energy helps to illuminate rooms, use a computer, listen to music or refrigerate food. HOW IS ELECTRICAL ENERGY PRODUCES? Electrical enertgy is proiduced by transforming energy from the movement of air and water, from sunlight or from the chemical energy in fuel (oil, coal or natural gas)
1. Electrical energy from sunlight
1990
Electrical energy can be generated from sunlight through PHOTOVOLTAIC CELLS or panels, that transform light energy into electrical energy.
2. ELECTRICAL ENERGY FROM THE MOVEMENT OF WATER
Electrical energy is also produced by using the movement of water. This is made by a HYDROELECTRIC POWER STATION, where the kinetic energy of the water is transformed into electrical energy.

3. Electrical energy from wind
Electrical energy can be obtained from wind through the use of windmills or AEROGENERATORS. Here, the kinetic energy of the wind is transformes into electrical energy.
