Present tenses - a short explanation

PRESENT SIMPLE

Budowa zdania am, are, is, + -ing

Zastosowanie

• czynności odbywające się w chwili mówienia, np.

He's working now.

• zachodzące zmiany, np.

It's getting cold.

• Tymczasowe sytuacje, np.

This month we're fixing our roof.Wyrażenia typowe dla czasu Present Continuos to: now, at the moment, today, this week, itp. UWAGA! Czasów CONTINUOUS nie wolno stosować z czasownikami statycznymi (np. like, understand, think = have an opinion)

Zastosowanie

• czynności powtarzające się, np.

He goes to work every day. I never drink coffee. Stąd użycie okoliczników częstotliwości, takich jak np. always, often, once a year, itd.

• ogólne prawdy, fakty, np.

The Earth goes around the Sun. Vegeterians don’t eat meat.

• rozkłady jazdy, grafiki, np. The concert begins at 10.
• z czasownikami wyrażającymi emocje (like, love, prefer), stany umysłu (know, believe, understand, want), doznania (hear, see and feel).

[*Powyższe czasowniki to tzw. czasowniki statyczne, które używane są we wszystkich czasach prostych.] np. I understand him. She wants to buy a new dress.

Zastosowanie

• czynność (ciągła) rozpoczęła się przeszłości i trwa do chwili obecnej, np.

I've been teaching for almost 10 years. We've been learning since 2 o'clock and still have a lot to revise.

• Czynność niedawno się zakończyła, a jej skutek jest widoczny na osobie w chwili obecnej, np.

I'm so exhausted! I've been running to catch the bus. Wyrażenia typowe dla czasu Present Perfect Continuous to: since, for.

Zastosowanie

• czynność wydarzyła się w przeszłości, a jej skutek widoczny jest obecnie, np.

Look! I have painted the walls blue! I've learned everything I suppose. We’ve sold the car.

• czynność rozpoczęła się w przeszłości i trwa do chwili obecnej.

We've spent our whole life in the same place. I've known Tom for seven years, Określenia typowe dla czasu Present Perfect Simple to: yet, just, already, so far, ever, lately, recently, since, for.
