Allophones and minimal pairs
Allophones
One of the ways in which a particular phoneme (= speech sound) can be pronounced (Cambridge Dictionary) Any of the variant forms of a phoneme as conditioned by position or adjoining sounds (Collins dictionary)
Minimal pairs
A minimal pair is two words that vary by only a single sound (English club)Minimal Pair /ɪ/ and /i:/ as in sit and seat
Minimal pairs
- In pairs. Explain what is a minimal pair and an allophone
- Include examples, the definition based on an author and your own definition of each concept
- Use a graphic organizer to explain the topic
- Do not forget the references
