Origin

- Started out from north in the Andes and in Central Peru.- Expanded through the first wave of language. - It is important to know that people can switch to speaking another language gradually. - Aymara as the language of Wari civilisation.

  • With the arrival of European invaders in 1532, the decline of the Aymara culture began.
  • As well as other indigenous people, Aymara people were also persecuted during the colonisation, and forced to work in mines.
  • The Aymaras, who inhabited coastal areas, started to move to the mountains, and the range of the altiplano, forming small villages.
  • Is in the mountains where a linguistic and ethnic division develops and concludes with the Aymarization of the area.

Main ingredient are potatoes or qamaqi ch'uqi(fox's potato), quinoa, and beans. Famous Dishes: -Chairo, -Charki

The Aymara are known for excellent weaving skills. Some tradicional clothing: -Ponchos. -Llulchu. -Chuspa. -Aguayo.

    The countries where the Aymara is spoken are: Peru, Bolivia, Argentina and Chile.

    The total population of aymara speakers is estimated at 2.8 million people.

    • Bolivia: Aymara central with 2.098.000 speakers. Its de official language of Bolivia.
    • Peru: Here is spoken by 442.000 people. Its found in danger of extintion.
    • Argentina: There are 30.000 Aymara speakers. The majority came from Bolivia.
    • Chile: There are 19.000 Aymara speakers.
