Unit 1 Lifestyle

1. What do you do in your free time?2. What does it mean "to lead healthy lifestyle"? 3. Do you think your lifestyle will change within a few years? 4. What are dangers of having a sedentary lifestyle?

Listening Part 1

  • In Part 1 you hear 8 short unrelated extracts from monologues or conversations.
  • There is one miltiple-choice question per extract, each with 3 options (A,B,C)
  • You hear each extract twice.
  • You will hear the distractors, so listen carefully!
  • For each question quickly read the first line. What`s the situation? Will you hear one person or two? Female or male?

Listening Part 2

Task info:

  • In part 2 you will hear a monologue lasting 3 to 4 minutes;
  • It tests your understanding of details, stated opinion and specific information;
  • You have to listen for particular words, phrases or numbers to complete 10 gaps. You should write these down exactly as you hear them.
  • All the questions follow the order of the information in the recording;
  • You need to write 1-3 words in each gap.
Important: Before listening decide what kind of information (e.g. object, number, name, city) you need to write in each gap.

Listening Part 3

Task information

  • In Part 3 you will hear 5 short related monologues.
  • Part 3 tests your understanding of: gist, detail, opinion, attitude, function, purpose, relationship, place, situation, etc.
  • The instructions you see and hear include information about the link between the five recordings.
  • The eight options (A-H) do not usually follow the order of the information in the recording.

JOB APPLICATION LETTER

What is a Job Application Letter? A letter of application, also known as a cover letter, is a document sent with your resume to provide additional information about your skills and experience to an employer. The letter of application is intended to provide detailed information on why you are are a qualified candidate for the job. What to Include in Your Cover Letter : 1) A greeting addressed to a specific person, if possible. 2) The introduction, which should include why the applicant is writing. 3) The body, which discusses your relevant qualifications. 4) The close, which thanks the reader and provides contact information and follow-up details. Writing an essay

An essay is an opinion writing which we analyse a topic, a situation or an issue from different points of view, providing different arguments and expressing our opinion about it. - It should be neutral/formal - Title is optional - 140-190 words !!! Read the task really thoroughly then plan your essay. Suggested structure: 1 – Introduction 2 – Body paragraphs (start them with topic sentence) 3 - Conclusion

  • You must deal with all these things if you want to pass with high marks. If something is missing you will lose marks. That includes your own idea.
