VERB Paterns
The verb patterns are dependent upon the first verb. There are several different types of pattern. When you learn a new verb, you need to learn the verb pattern. Unfortunately, some verbs have more than one possible pattern! Sometimes, if a verb has two patterns, each pattern can have a different meaning or use.
ING or TO
Verb + Infinitive Infinitive is obtained by adding the suffix “to” in front of the verb or using the verb in plain form. Just like gerund, it is a named verb that can be used in the case of a subject or object in a sentence. It can be a single word. Sometimes it can be a group of words.

After certain verbs, we use a pattern that helps to escribe the definitions with active actions in the -ing form, and after other verbs we use the infinitive. Sometimes we can use either form and there is no change in meaning. Occasionally we can use either form and there is a change in meaning. She wants to study languages at university.
To be a student is really difficult.
They are planning to move into another house.
To make a negative, “not” is brought to the beginning.
There is a meaning difference between the predicate being negative and the infinitive sentence being negative.
I have not decided yet to go to the cinema with you.
I have not decided going to the cinema with you.
-ing forms as nouns
-ing nouns are nearly always uncount nouns. They can be used as the subject of a verb: Learning English is not easy.
as the object of a verb:
We enjoy learning English.
Common verbs followed by an -ing object are:
A good dictionary will tell you whether a verb is transitive (usually vt. or tr. next to the verb in dictionaries) or intransitive (vi. or intr.)
