3. My exchange experience: Think – puzzle - explore
Elaborate an imaginary story about an exchange experience in any school of your preference. Include the prast continous and the past simple tense.
My example: Living in Tanzania
Introduction:- Present the country and context.
Last year, I decided to go to Tanzania for an exchange experience as a Teacher in the local school. I spent 6 months there and I stayed at my cousin's place. She's been living there for 5 years now, so she knows the city pretty well and she helped me to adapt to it. At first, it wasn't easy, because the city was completely different from mine. In Bogotá, there are different places for you to have fun, like malls, restaurants, parks and theaters. But in Tanzania, there is just one mall and a few possibilities to hang around.
My first week as a Teacher in my new school was good, I knew my new colleagues and met my students, it was an interesting experience and everything was going well there. But I was feeling lonely at home, my cousin worked during the eveings and I didn't like to spend time on my own. So she suggested to take care of her dog, take her to a walk and play with her.
-Introduce the situation.
Body paragraphs -Present and explain the experience .
One day, as I was going to school, I heard a strange noise, that made me stop. Someone was shouting at me, so I turned around. It was a colleague running behind me, she reached my way and told me: "where are you going? we do not have class today! We are celebrating the Swahili cultural festival, that means no classes today!" I thanked her and returned my way home.
As I was getting home, I heard my cousin's dog barking in the backyard. I got there and decided to take her for a walk. As we were walking, I could see that people were acting nervous and throwing looks at me. Then, I saw a park and decided to release the dog and let her play. I took my phone and I was just taking a picture of her, when she started running towards a man. The man was running for his life and the dog was following him.
-Include cultural aspects of the country you've chosen.
-Include sentences in past continous and past simple.
Ending paragraph-Conclude the story and explain how it endend.
The dog just wanted to play, but the man got scared. I apologised and left. As I was making my way home, I was reflecting upon what had happened. I got there and waited for my cousin to arrive. At night, I told her what had happened and she explained to me that dogs are not a common pet in Tanzania. Turns out local people are not used to see them on parks and they are seen as wild animals. It was an interesting experience I'll never forget.
-Include an ending sentence.
