I give this short story a 4/5 star rating because of its interesting and unique story line. The themes and lessons engraved throughout the story gives the audience something to take away. While confusing at times, the mysterious writing style left room for reader interpretation.

This film is set in the 20th century told mostly in flashback by Vienna's Chief Inspector Uhl, who is concerned with the political and philosophical duel between Eisenheim the Illusionist and Crown Prince Leopold.

The themes of reality vs illusion and knowledge vs mystery that were found in the short story are consisent throughout the film as well. The Illusionist, however, sets up a fascinating parable about art, religion and politics, and the misty boundaries between them.

I give this film a 5/5 star rating for its interesting plot and well developed characters. The eye catching visuals and talented actors keeps the audience engaged throughout. The film truly brings the short story to life and allows the audience to really understand and grasp the mind and character of Eisenhiem as he is on a journey of love, competition, and magic.
