Plot
By: Audry Portilla Baradín
Exposition
Setting: a market in BagdadSamarra is mentioned as the place the servant is going; however, no events explicitly happen here.
Characters: 1. A merchant 2. The merchant's servant 3. Death
Conflict: As soon as the servant finds out Death will meet him, he starts running from her (from his fate).
Rising Action
1. The merchant sent the servant to the market.2. The servant came back terrified since he saw Death giving him a menacing look. 3. The servant runs away to Samarra to hide from Death. 4. The merchant found Death in the market and talked with her.
Crisis / Climax
Death told the merchant that she was surprised because she was waiting to see the servant later in Samarra, not in Bagdad.
Here readers can find the turning point by realizing that Death is indeed looking for the Servant, but he decided to go far away to avoid Death. Nonetheless, he was going straight to the place where Death was expecting to meet him.
Falling Action
To this point, the story has ended. Then, readers can infer what will happen next. However, there are different possibilities. Some can be:
1. Death went to Samarra and found the servant to take his life.2. Death changed her mind because destiny surprised her when she met the servant earlier in Bagdad, and that does not happen often. 3. The servant was able to hide and avoid Death for a long time.
Resolution
To this point, the story has ended. Then, readers can infer what will happen next. However, there are different possibilities. Some can be: 1. Death kills the servant. 2. Death spares the servant's life, and they meet after many years. 3. The servant can avoid Death forever.
