Covid in Economy

The FTSE dropped 14.3% in 2020, its worst performance since 2008. In the United States, the proportion of people out of work hit a yearly total of 8.9%, according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), signalling an end to a decade of jobs expansion. Millions of workers have also been put on government-supported job retention schemes as parts of the economy, such as tourism and hospitality, have come to a near standstill. The number of new job opportunities is still very low in many countries.

How has Covid changed the World Economy?

Iñaki Escárcega

Its spread has left national economies and businesses counting the costs, as governments struggle with new lockdown measures to tackle the spread of the virus. Despite the development of new vaccines, many are still wondering what recovery could look like. Big shifts in stock markets, where shares in companies are bought and sold, can affect the value of pensions or individual savings accounts (Isas).

COVID has caused economy to plummet.

The FTSE, Dow Jones Industrial Average and the Nikkei all saw huge falls as the number of Covid-19 cases grew in the first months of the crisis. The major Asian and US stock markets have recovered following the announcement of the first vaccine in November, but the FTSE is still in negative territory.

Mayan culture is Commercialized

Mayan culture is lost and sold by the Government

Roberto Juarez

Aguilar Paz also points out the discrimination suffered by Mayan communities, stressed that this occurs inside and outside the communities, among the Mayans they discriminate against because they do not speak the Mayan language, however the anthropologist points out that it is not that people stop being Mayans rather they have become civilized and haveThe anthropologist mentions that discrimination is the worst that Mayan communities can suffer, since it represents a years-long struggle against governments that do not give importance to the culture, knowledge and wisdom of the Mayan people.

From the anthropologist's perspective, governments have found a niche in Mayan culture that allows them to market anything, with the stigma that the product sold is ‘Mayan’ without actually belonging to or representing the culture.

The mayans built impressive temples to worship their gods.

Worst GDP Performance of Mexico

The UNCTAD predicts the worst GDP performance of Mexico

Iñaki Escárcega

Mexico will have the worst performance of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) considering the years of 2020 and 2021 together and covering 17 of the largest economies in the world, projected the United Nations Conference on Trade and

Development (UNCTAD), in a report released this Tuesday. The Mexican economy would register a 10% drop in 2020 and a 3% rise in 2021, according to estimates.

Arguments against globalization

Roberto Juarez

One of the most frequent arguments against globalization is the following: The disappearance of national borders and the establishment of a world interconnected by international markets will inflict a death blow to regional and national cultures, to the traditions, customs, mythologies and patterns of behavior that determine the cultural identity of each community or country. Incapable of resisting the invasion of cultural products from developed countries -or, rather, from the superpower, the United States-, will end up imposing itself, standardizing the entire world, and annihilating the rich flowering of various cultures that it still boasts. In this way, all the other people, will lose their identity and will become

the colonized of the 21st century, epigones, modeled after the cultural patterns of the new imperialism. , which, in addition to reigning over the planet thanks to its capitals, techniques, military power and scientific knowledge, will impose on others its language, its ways of thinking, believing, etc. This nightmare or negative utopia, of a world that, due to globalization, will have lost its linguistic and cultural diversity. Perhaps the most notorious case is that of France, where campaigns are periodically carried out by governments, of various ideological signs, in defense of the French "cultural identity", supposedly threatened by globalization.

There are many countries filled with many different cultures.

Future of Video calling in a post-Covid World.

Scientists discover a Pulsar Wind Nebula

Solves a 34 year old Mystery

Will video calling stay or die?

Few things are as amazing as a supermassive explosion in space.

Santiago Saldaña

Santiago Saldaña

During this past year quarantined in our homes, many platforms of video calling such as zoom or meet have risen to fulfill that was taken from us: social interaction. This allows thousands of people to talk to their friends and family without risking sparcing the virus. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected how we all interact with each other and with technology. Before, virtual devices were just used to watch videos, but now they are used to create experiences. Many companies have had to adjust to these new measures, bringing the digitized future sooner.

Astronomers captured the bright explosion of a star on February 24, 1987. Scientists have been searching for the squashed core that should have been left behind. Now it finally has been found. The supernova was the first of its kind to be able to be seen with the naked eye in 400 years. It is located in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a small companion galaxy next to the Milky Way. When a star explodes, it collapses into itself before the outer layers are shot into space. This compression turns the core into a neutron star. This is was missing as the debris

blocked the view along with radiation. It was unknown whether the X-ray emission was caused by a pulsar wind nebula or particles being accelerated to high energies by the blast waves of the explosion. The latest X-ray report confirms the case for the pulsar wind nebula. This means that the neutron star must be there. As it is often the case, the case for the pulsar wind nebula needs to be strengthened and corroborated when more data is available. However, this will increase our knowledge about how stars and supernovas work.

Zoom is the most popular video platform.

Although entrepreneurs had tried to convince us that video conferences had arrived but this didn't play out until now. But just how permanent is this change?

Cyber-security is one of the main focuses of global security.

Global Security Issues

Terrorist groups are not formally affiliated with a specific nation. This means that they can be very hard to track down, are able to act without fear of national laws, and often play off the tensions of various foreign nations. Modern terrorist organizations are mostly centered around the Middle East, and nations there are the ones most at risk. However, terrorist groups have introduced significant threats around the world by exploiting security gaps. Nations in Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas, including the United States, have all been victims of terrorist attacks.

Security Issues in the Modern World

Valeria Suarez

There are many security issues that the world will have to face as a global community, from drug trafficking to border disputes, but let's start with one of the most obvious and most talked about: terrorism. Terrorism is defined as an act of violence to spread fear to support an ideological goal. It's something that most of us are aware of, because it is one of the most talked-about security issues in this world.

US-Mexico Security Cooperation

Impact on Security

Mexico and the United States have shared security interests. Mexico wants to reduce the high levels of violence that impact the well-being of the population, improve the capacity of its law enforcement and justice institutions, and demonstrate it is a reliable partner in achieving North American security on counterterrorism and drug policy. The United States wants secure borders and effective drug policies. Both countries want a legal, safe, and orderly migration process, indicating a natural convergence of interests in aiding development efforts in Central America.

Valeria Suarez

This paper provides a road map for U.S.-Mexico bilateral cooperation on security matters for the next six years, under the presidency in Mexico of Andrés Manuel López Obrador. It offers concrete and implementable policy recommendations for the current context of U.S.-Mexican relations. Our recommendations for advancing Mexican and U.S. interests and promoting effective cooperation broadly fall into three categories of joint policy action: - aligning policy objectives - deepening subnational cooperation - addressing chronic irritants.

Because USA and Mexico share a border, their relationship is important for both countries.
