Modifiers with nouns

To modify nouns, use a bit of or adjectives like real, complete, slight or hardly any, almost no.

  • It was a complete waste of time.
  • It was a bit of a nightmare.
  • It was a bit dull. There were hardly any activities.

Hardly is a negative and goes with any anything, etc.Almost goes with no, nothing, don't, didn't, etc.

Back

too

a bit

a bit is used with negative adjectives only to make them weaker. too always shows you don't like something or it's a problem. If the problem is small, use a bit / a little too. If it's a big problem use much/miles too.

  • It was a bit of a nightmare.
  • It was miles too hot for my liking. I simply couldn't go outside.
  • The food was quite nice, but maybe a bit bland.
  • It was a bit too hot for my liking. I can't do much in that heat.
