African people were sent by boat to America and they became slaves and worked in America (in plantations).

Abraham Lincoln was elected President of the United States of America. He was the 16th President of the US.

"The civil war or the Secession war" This war took place from 1861 to 1865. It was a conflict betwween The North of the USA and the South of the USA.

Jim Crow Laws were laws ("des lois") in the South of the USA. The laws made segregation legal between the white and the colored people.

It was the Civil Rights Movement. People fought for equal rights for Black people. Many non violent protests took place in the USA.

Barack Obama was elected in 2008 and 2012. He was the first black president in America.

Ruby Bridges made history in 1964 when she went to an all-white school. She visited the White House to see a painting of her historic first day by Norman Rockwell that is on a wall outside the Oval Office.
