-Daisy Hontiveros-January 26, 1917 -Roxas City -is an actor, director and writer. Born in Roxas City, Capiz on January 26, 1917, she elevated legitimate theater and dramatic arts to a new level of excellence by staging and performing in breakthrough productions of classic Filipino and foreign plays and by encouraging the establishment of performing groups and the professionalization of Filipino theater.

Did you know?-She was conferred the National Artist for Theater in 1999. -Her husband was Lamberto Avellana, the film and the Director who also was named National artist in 1976. -Daisy and Lamberto Avellana co-founded the Barangay theatre Guild BTG, along with forty eight colleagues in 1939. -age sweetheart Daisy Hontiveros, an actress who eventually also became a National Artist in 1999. Avellana made his film debut with Sakay.

Daisy Hontiveros-Avellana is most remembered for her role as Candida Marasigan in Nick Joaquin's 'Portrait of an Artist as Filipino. In 1939, she and Lamberto founded the Barangay Theatre Guild, an organization that was instrumental in promoting theater and drama in the Philippines.
