There are different ways of communication. In earlier days communicating with people was very difficult. As technology grows today communication has become very easy. We can talk with our friends easily, chat with them.Lets see what are the different ways of communication.

Telephone/Landline

Telephones and Landlines are used to talk to people nearby or far away. These are fixed to one place either in our home or office and cannot be carried to all the places. The landlines are connected with wires to send our voice to the other person speaking at the other end.In Landline, when we wish to talk to a person in another city or town, we need to use the area code before the landline number. Every individual city/town has a different area code. To find the area code we use the telephone directory(a big book that contains the name, number, and area code of registered phone numbers). Now Find the area code of our theni by referring to the telephone directory if you have one at your home or get help from your parents.

Mobile phone

The mobile phone can be carried everywhere we go and it is not fixed like a landline phone so nowadays people prefer mobile phone rather than a landline. The development of mobile phones has made communication easier and faster. We can also send text messages through mobile phones. This is called SMS/Short Message Service which we will be charged by the mobile operator.BSNL, Airtel, jio, and Vodafone are some Indian Mobile Operators. Now we use WhatsApp to send messages. We can also make a video call on mobile phones. Complete activity 12.4 in your studio.

Post cards and Inland letters

Some people use postcards or inland letters to communicate. A letter takes a day or more to reach its destination. speed post and courier services are used to send letters and parcels faster. All online shopping uses parcel services to deliver our parcels. The postcards and letters are delivered to us by the postman.

Television

Television is the most powerful and interesting means of communication. We all love to watch television. The pictures and sound make us interesting to watch it. Apart from entertainment, we can know about what is happening in the world almost immediately through television.NEWS channels in television telecast world news and it is easy to communicate a message to large people through television.Complete act-12.2 in your studio now.

Radio

Radio is also one of the common means of communication. It only transmits voice through air. People use radios to listen to songs and news. Most radios work with batteries and can be used when power cut. They come in various sizes too. There are many radio stations in India. They can be carried from one place to another. Nowadays we have radios on mobile phones and in cars too. Kodai FM is one that is popular in Theni. You can listen to Kodai FM by tuning your radio knob to 100.5. Listen to the news on Kodai FM if you have a radio at home.

NewsPaper,Books and Magazines

Everyone would have seen a newspaper in your home. It is one of the commonly used means of communication. The newspaper contains local and world news. Reading newspapers daily will help us know about the happenings as well as improves our reading skills. Books and Magazines also share a lot of information. Collect any 5 important pieces of news from the newspaper and paste them into your class note.

Complete activity 12.6 in your studio.

Internet

The Internet helps us look for any information quickly. It also helps us to send and receive e-mails. E-mails can be used to send pictures and messages easily and quickly. They are faster than postcards and inland letters as the messages are sent to people across the world almost immediately through the internet. We use Microsoft Outlook in our school to send e-mails. Open your outlook id and learn to send an e-mail.
