10 popular Easter traditions and customs
what is easter?
Easter is an annual religious holiday of spring with different meanings, found in Judaism and Christianity. Some Easter customs are found, with different significance, in the antiquity before the biblical religions, reaching today a great cultural diversity, depending on the particularities of the adopted religion.
THE HISTORY OF EASTER
Easter is the most important Christian holiday of the year. Easter celebrates the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Sunday - the third day after the Scriptures - the women carrying myrrh found the tomb empty. The tomb was empty because Christ had risen. Against them, of all, of those who accused and mocked Him from then until today, derisively called the King of the Jews, king crowned with thorns, king whose throne was a Cross, forsaken by His people, guarded under heavy and cold the stone slab, Christ won the most brilliant victory ever seen: the victory over death and human wickedness. This victory could be denied, but it could never be snatched from him.
Christ has risen and overcome, for Him and for us. We believe and overcome through the Dead the Resurrection of Christ, we die to be resurrected and we are resurrected to live forever with Christ. Suffering and death we enjoy the Resurrection; through the Resurrection we rejoice and triumph in the triumph of Christ, as our triumph. He died for us and triumphed for us. In His death our stewardship, in His Resurrection, is our victory.
Easter eggs
efore this tradition was adopted by Christians, egg painting was a common practice among the Chinese thousands of years ago. Eggs are seen as a symbol of life, creation and fertility, being offered in China to loved ones. Regarding the Romanian folklore, there are several meanings of the fact that we paint Easter eggs. One of the legends says that the Mother of God, who had come to her crucified son, brought a basket of eggs, which she placed next to the cross. The eggs turned red from the blood dripping from Christ's wounds. And the moment Jesus saw this, it is believed that he said, "From now on you shall make red and variegated eggs in remembrance of my crucifixion, as I did today."
nother legend from Romanian folklore says that when Jesus was beaten with stones, they turned into reddish eggs after touching him. Although you have noticed that people paint eggs in many colors and patterns, the traditional color is red, because it symbolizes fire and its purifying effect, as well as the blood of Jesus.
10 popular Easter traditions and customs
The elders say that from the first egg struck on Easter day all the members of the family must eat, in order to be always together; If you hit an egg with two yolks on the first day of Easter, get ready for the wedding. An old saying goes that you will get married very soon; In several villages in Moldova, tradition requires that we wash our faces with water from a pot in which flowers, money and a red egg were placed. It is said that in this way we will be rosy like the red egg, rich and healthy. According to the same custom, the one who washes the last of this vessel takes the money; In some Moldovan villages it is said that the one whose egg does not break at Easter will end before the other. On the other hand, if you break the egg, you will be strong all year round; Another tradition on the banks of the Prut requires that the Easter egg be eaten, and the shells be thrown on the road; In several areas of Moldova, people put a red and a white egg in a bowl of water in the morning. Then they wash it with water and put it on their cheeks with the two eggs, then leave a coin in that bowl. Those who do so will have red cheeks and white skin like the two eggs, all year round; On returning home, the one who brings the Holy Light from the Resurrection service must make a cross of smoke on the door beam, so that the whole household may be protected from evil;
