My project topic was butterflies. Our rebus song was about the life cycle of a butterfly, and sung to the tune of "Up On the Housetop".

Wonderings

• Where do butterflies live when it is cold?

Phase 1

We read a book about our senses and how we can use them. Then, we used our sense of sight to look at pictures of butterflies and our new class caterpillars!

Phase 2 Day 2

Phase 2 Day 2: Our wondering for today was, "What do butterflies eat?". We looked at different flowers butterflies get their nectar from, and then looked at our caterpillars.

Phase 2 Day 4: Butterfly Expert

We listened to our butterfly expert from the Philedelphia Insectarium and Butterfly Pavilion through Zoom, as she answered all of our questions. Our wondering for our butterfly expert was "What is a butterfly garden?".

Phase 2 Day 5

Our wondering for today was, "Where do butterflies go when it gets cold?". We learned about butterfly migration, and how butterflies migrate to Mexico to stay warm. Then, we looked at our very first butterfly!

Phase 3

To wrap up what we have learned about butterflies, we drew the life cycle of a butterfly! Some children drew the painted lady butterfly life cycle, and others drew the monarch butterfly life cycle.
