Contractions
- Two words become a shorter one.
- An apostrophe (´) is placed where the letter is omitted.
(En las contracciones, dos palabras se convierten en una más corta , se omite una letra colocando un apóstrofe)
Verb to be contractions
Observa las contracciones en cada caso:
Observa los siguientes ejemplos en donde se utilizan las contracciones:
Examples:
I am a baseball player. I´m a baseball player. ( Soy un jugador de beisbol) You are a good student. You're a good student. ( Eres un buen estudiante) He is my brother. He' s my brother. (Él es mi hermano) She is the french teacher. She´ s the french teacher. ( Ella es la profesora de francés) It is a green ball. It´s a green ball. (Es una pelota verde) You are famous singers. You´re famous singers. (Ustedes son cantantes famosas) They are my parents. They´ re my parents. ( Ellos son mis padres).
Como podrás observar las contracciones son simplemente formas más breves de decir o escribir palabras, no cambian su significado.
On your notebook: Rewrite the followings sentences using the contractions, then translate them to spanish: ( escribe nuevamente las siguientes oraciones utilizando las contracciones (según el caso) y luego tradúcela al espanol. Observa el ejemplo: Example: He is my brother. He´s my brother ( Él es mi hermano).
1) It is a dangerous place. 2) We are japanese tourists. 3) He is a famous climber. 4) It is a huge mountain. 5) She is the winner. 6) They are at the Grand Canyon.
