Human rights in Colombia

Administración de Empresas

What are human rights?

Are the rights that all people have simply because they are human. The ONU fundamental objective is to protect and promote human rights.

  • Although the Colombian government has enacted some of the most progressive human rights laws in the hemisphere, its citizens continue to face serious violations of their human rights. Indigenous and Afro-Colombian communities, particularly in rural territories, are the communities most affected by this violence and repression.

HUMAN RIGHTS IN COLOMBIA

  • Government measures to contain COVID-19 did not adequately guarantee the fundamental rights of indigenous peoples. Communities historically lacked sufficient access to health, water or food, as well as social and sanitation conditions to cope with the virus. Furthermore, isolation measures prevented them from accessing their means of subsistence.

Rights of indigenous peoples

In conclusion, human rights are fundamental to life because they guarantee that their dignity as a person is respected. Colombia was widely recognized as the most dangerous country in the world for those who defend their human rights. This is one of the countries where more violations have been registered in recent years, violence, impunity, limits to freedom of expression and discrimination have intensified in Colombia
