Was a German grammarian and language educator 1803– 1865
Was a German author of scholarly works (1819 – 1881
Was a German teacher of French and Italian and a textbook author 1756-1822
German educationist and high school teacher (1765-1817)
As the names of some of its leading exponents suggest, Grammar Translation was the offspring of German scholarship.

C. Marcel (1793-1896)
The Frenchman proposed that reading be taught before other skills, and tried to locate language teaching within a broader educational framework.
The Englishman proposed the first "structural syllabus,“ advocating that learners be taught the most basic structural patterns ocurring in the language.
T. Prendergast (1806-1886)
F. Gouin (1831-1896)
The Frenchman believed that language learning was facilitated through using language to complish events consisting of sequence of related actions.
REPRESENTATIVES
From the 1880s, linguists like Henry Sweet in England, Wilhelm Vietor in Germany, and Paul Passy in France began to provide the intellectual leadership needed.
