IONIAN REVOLT

Major uprising of the Greek cities of Asia Minor against Persian rule that slowed down the Persian invasion of Greece.

499-493 BC

BATTLE OF MARATHON

First persian invasion of Gre ece, citizens fought. Plataea aided them and the Persian force was commanded by Datis and Artaphernes.

490 BC

BATTLE OF THERMOPYLAE

Greek city-states allied and led by king Leonidas and Spartans. They hold off the Persians for 7 days.

SEP 8, 480 BC

BATTLE OF SALAMIS

The Persians evacuated and sacked Athens. The battle was on sea so the Athens used their navy to fight. The Athenians were victorious with the help of Spartans.

SEP 480 BC

BATTLE OF PLATAEA

Athenians and Spartans defeated the Persian army in this war. This defeat forced Xerxes te retreat back to Persia.

A war breaks out betwwen the Delian League led by Athens and the Peloponnesian League led by Sparta,

431 BC

SURRENDER OF ATHENS

APRIL 25, 431 BC

Athens attempted to help Sicily but failed. Then Sparta attacked the city of Syracuse but Athenians also lost. At last Spartan general Lysander defeated the Athenian fleet.

PLAGUE OF ATHENS

The Plague of Athens was an epidemic that devastated the city-state. This occured during the second year of the Peloponnesian War when Athen's vistory seemed within reach.

430-426 BC

BATTLE OF SICILY

Athenian military went into Sicily during the Peloponnesian War. The Athenians lost inmmensly. They lost soldeirs, boats and power.
