Horses and the Columbian Exchange

Where did Horses come from and where are they now?

During the colombian exchange horses moved from Europe,Asia,Africa towards the Americas where it was quicly adopted by the Native Americans for use, before the Colombian exchange horses were only present in Europe and Asia and Africa where it originates from.Nowadays, horses are mostly found in North America in countries such as the United States,Canada,Mexico and other north american carribean countries.

How the resource has changed over time

Over the time since the colombian exchange the commerce of the commodity has drastically changed over time as nowadays it is used moresoly for horse racing by wealthy personnels in the west however its prominence in europe has vastly shrunk as the continent has the 2nd lowest amount of horses which is a significant diffrence from the time of the columbian exchange where europe had the highest amount of horses as they originated from their and before they were mostly used as travel for the middle income and the commodity was fighting with military personnels. Therefore the trade networks currently that operate just shipping horses between countries for the owner which is possible now because of globalization other wise a italian horse couldnt have had an chinese owner for example.Trade of horses isnt as popular or nig as it used to be because of the cultural changes.

Why did people find it desirable? There are many reasons why people found the horse a desirable commodity such as for travel because before horses native americans could only travel by foot and couldn't go very long, Warfare was a big sell for horses because horses allowed tribes to better defend themselves and use newer and advanced tactics to fight. They were also easy ways to just generally walk around and after it became spiritual people used religeon to get more horses back in the day.

How does this resource impact/change culture?

The resource impacted culture through the ways it was used such us it changed the way people transport which lead many culture changes overtime and another cultural change that happened is that the horse quickly became a symbol for Wealth and Status which changed the perception of the commodity as a whole, perhaps a major cultural impact was through spirituality as Native Americans began praying towards the horse. The implications of the cultural changes or many say as a cultural revolution for the indians were long cherished and some native tribes still pray towards to the horse and the implications of it being a commodity of the wealthy were also significant as they were starting to be appreciated and prized possseions for centuries.
